Originally native to Europe, much of temperate Asia and western North Africa, it is now found worldwide. Urtica dioica is a dioecious, herbaceous, perennial plant, 0.9 to 2 metres tall in the summer and dying down to the ground in winter. The seeds develop within the small, greenish-brown seed pods that form after the plant flowers. Each seed pod contains numerous tiny seeds. While the whole plant contains vitamins (A and C) and minerals (iron, magnesium, calcium), nettle seeds are also rich in fatty acids and vitamin E. Stinging nettle seeds have a nutty flavor and can be consumed as food.

Using: Heat 1 cup water to near boiling. Place the 1-2 teaspoons nettle seeds in a teapot or a heatproof mug. Pour the hot water over the seeds. Cover the teapot or mug with a lid or a small plate to trap the heat and let the tea steep for about 5 to 10 minutes.
