Balkan Savory Herb / Satureja Montana / Dried Winter Savory Herb / Balkanska Chubritsa / Herbal Tea / Spice

Origin: Bulgaria
Botanical Name: Satureja Montana
Common Names: Winter Savory, Mountain Savory

Balkan savory, scientifically known as Satureja montana, is a herbaceous perennial plant that belongs to the mint family (Lamiaceae). This herb is native to the Balkan Peninsula in Southeastern Europe, but it can also be found in other regions with suitable growing conditions. Balkan savory has small, narrow, and elongated leaves that are dark green in color. The leaves are highly aromatic and have a peppery, pungent, and savory flavor. The flavor of Balkan savory is similar to that of summer savory (Satureja hortensis), but it is often described as more robust and peppery. It is used to add a savory and pungent taste to various dishes. Balkan savory is a popular culinary herb in Balkan and Mediterranean cuisines. It is used to flavor a variety of dishes, including meat dishes, stews, soups, and bean dishes. It is often added during cooking to enhance the overall flavor of the dish. When using Balkan savory in cooking, the leaves are often harvested and used fresh or dried. The dried leaves can be stored and used throughout the year.
Balkan savory tea has a robust and peppery flavor.

Usage: Heat 1 cup water in a pot or kettle. Put 1-2 teaspoons herb into a teapot or a tea infuser. Once the water is near boiling, pour it over in the teapot or cup. Allow to steep in the hot water for about 5 to 10 minutes. Strain.
