Rhamnus Frangula
Buckthorn Bark BULK 1 lb - 2 lbs / Rhamnus Frangula / Dried Buckthorn Bark / Frangula Alnus / Organic Bulk Herbs
Origin: Bulgaria
Botanical Name: Rhamnus Frangula
Frangula alnus, commonly known as alder buckthorn, glossy buckthorn, or breaking buckthorn, is a tall deciduous shrub in the family Rhamnaceae. Unlike other "buckthorns", alder buckthorn does not have thorns.
Using: Boil 1 cup water. Place 1-2 teaspoons buckthorn bark in a teapot or heatproof container. Pour the boiling water over the bark. Allow the bark to steep in the hot water for about 10 to 15 minutes. Strain.
Traditional Use
Alder buckthorn bark is a classic herb of European tradition, known as a gentle, natural support for regularity. It is traditionally used:
- To support healthy, regular bowel movements; its gentle effect usually appears 8–10 hours after drinking
- To support the natural flow of bile and the digestion of fats
- In seasonal cleansing routines, to support the body's natural elimination processes
Harvest & Character
Harvested in early spring, when the sap starts to rise: the bark is carefully peeled from branches in thin strips (no thicker than 2 mm). Grey-brown, tube-shaped pieces with a slightly bitter taste. Traditionally the bark is aged for at least a year before use, which makes it gentler.
Please note: For short-term use only. Not for pregnancy, breastfeeding or children.
