Cocoa husks are the outer layer surrounding the beans of the Theobroma cacao plant, which belongs to the Malvaceae (Mallow) family. The Malvaceae family is a large botanical group that includes many valuable plants such as mallow, marshmallow, okra, and linden. Theobroma cacao is one of the most distinguished members of this family and has been used for centuries under its name meaning “food of the gods.” Cocoa husks share the same rich taste and aroma as cocoa beans, yet they offer a lighter and more delicate texture. Cocoa husk tea has a naturally warm, chocolate-like flavor, but it’s lighter and more delicate than actual cocoa or hot chocolate. The taste is often described as a mix between chocolate, herbal tea, and a hint of roasted hazelnut. It’s comforting and cozy rather than strong.
Usage: Infuse 1 teaspoon of cocoa husks with 400 ml of boiling water in a covered glass or enamel container for 5 minutes. Then strain before drinking.
