ORIGIN OF BULGARIA
Botanical Name: Sambucus Nigra
Other Names: Elder, Black elder, European elder, Common elder, Elderberry flower, Bore tree, Pipe tree, Elder blow, Sambucus
Elder — Sambucus nigra L., of the Caprifoliaceae family — is a large shrub or tree. The flowers of black elder (Sambucus nigra) are one of nature's most valuable treasures. Aroma and taste – more delicate and refined than the berries, the flowers turn every cup of tea into a true ritual. Using elderflower is extremely easy and enjoyable. It is most often used as an aromatic tea with a mildly sweet taste and a soothing effect.
While the berries are concentrated sources of nutrients, the flowers impress with their lightness and gentle effect. They are especially suitable for daily use as a hot or cold tea. Thanks to their delicate aroma and fresh taste, the dried flowers blend easily with other herbs – mint, linden, chamomile, lemon balm, lemongrass. This way, you get not just a drink, but an aromatic blend that brings both enjoyment and care for the body.
How to use dried black elderflowers?
Tea – steep 2 teaspoons of dried flowers in 250 ml of hot water for about 20 minutes. Sweeten with honey for an even richer taste.
Herbal blends – combine with other herbs to create your own aromatic bouquet.
Culinary recipes – elderflowers can also be used as an aromatic ingredient in refreshing summer drinks or homemade syrups.
Traditional Use
Elderflower is one of the most loved flowers of European folk tradition, with a delicate, honey-like aroma. It is traditionally used:
- As a warming tea in the cold season, to support the body's natural defenses and the respiratory system
- Drunk hot to encourage gentle sweating when you feel run-down
- To support the body's natural cleansing and elimination of excess fluids
- For a feeling of freshness and vitality, especially in spring
- In refreshing summer drinks, cordials and homemade syrups
Harvest & Character
Harvested in May and June at the start of flowering, in dry, sunny weather, and dried with care to keep their delicate aroma. Creamy white to pale yellow flowers, naturally rich in rutin and quercetin.
Please note: Do not use if you are allergic to elder. Not for children under 3, or during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
