Centella Asiatica

Gotu Kola Herb / Centella Asiatica / Pennywort / Herbal Tea / Herbal Remedy

ORIGIN OF BULGARIA
Botanical Name: Centella Asiatica
Other Names: Indian Pennywort, Asiatic Pennywort, Marsh Pennywort, Water Pennywort, Tiger Grass, Mandukaparni, Pegaga, Takip-Kuhol, Yahong-Yahong

Gotu Kola belongs to the Apiaceae (parsley) family. However, unlike many of its relatives, it features creeping stems and round, slightly scalloped leaves that spread close to the ground. Gotu Kola (Centella asiatica) is commonly known as Indian pennywort, marsh pennywort, or water pennywort. These names originate from the resemblance of its leaves to the shape of an old British penny coin. In India, Gotu Kola has traditionally been used as an incense-like herb during meditation practices. Gotu Kola tea has a mildly earthy, grassy, and slightly bitter taste.

Usage: Add 1 teaspoon of Gotu Kola herb to 300 ml of water and boil for 2–3 minutes. Remove from heat and let it steep, covered, for 20 minutes. Strain before use.
