ORIGIN OF BULGARIA
Botanical Name: Lepidum Meyenii
Other Names: Maca, Maca Powder, Andean Ginseng, Peruvian Gold
Maca Root Powder (Lepidium meyenii) is obtained from a plant that grows in the Andes Mountains of Peru and Bolivia at altitudes above 4,000 meters. It belongs to the Brassicaceae (mustard) family, and its root is dried and ground into a fine powder. It has an earthy, malty, and slightly nutty flavor, which some people describe as mildly caramel-like and subtly sweet.
It is widely used in the kitchen and can be added to smoothies and milkshakes, plant-based milks such as almond, oat, or soy, and coffee or cacao drinks. It also works well in yogurt, muesli, and oatmeal, as well as in energy balls and snack bars. Maca root powder can be used in baking, including cakes, cookies, pancakes, and bread, and it can be mixed with honey, molasses, or date paste to create simple and flavorful blends.
Usage:
Maca Root Powder Tea:
Add 1 teaspoon of maca root powder to 1 cup of water and heat gently for about 5–10 minutes without boiling too strongly. Remove from heat, let it rest for a few minutes, and stir well. You can sweeten it with honey or add a pinch of cinnamon or cacao if desired.
Maca Smoothie:
Add ½–1 teaspoon of maca root powder to your smoothie together with fruits and liquid. It pairs especially well with banana, plant-based milk (almond, oat, or soy), cacao, honey, or dates. Blend until smooth and enjoy.
Traditional Use
