Filipendula ulmaria, commonly known as “meadowsweet,” is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the Rosaceae (rose) family. It naturally grows in the damp meadows, riverbanks, and forest clearings of Europe and Western Asia. Throughout history, dried meadowsweet herb has been kept in homes for its pleasant, mildly sweet fragrance, often scattered in rooms, wardrobes, or among linens to create a refreshing effect. The taste of dried meadowsweet herb is gently sweet, floral, and slightly almond-like. It has a smooth, pleasant flavor that is often described as refreshing, with subtle notes that can resemble vanilla. Unlike bitter or sharp herbs, meadowsweet offers a light and delicate taste.
Using: To make a cup of dried meadowsweet herb tea, add 1 teaspoon of the herb to a cup of boiling water, let it steep for 5–10 minutes, and then strain.
