Viscum album is a species of mistletoe in the family Santalaceae. Viscum album is a hemiparasite on several species of trees, from which it draws water and nutrients. It has a significant role in European mythology, legends, and customs. In modern times, it is commonly featured in Christmas decoration and symbology. Viscum album grows in Europe, northwest Africa, and central Asia and Japan. Mistletoe is a perennial, semi-evergreen parasitic plant, growing on the branches of trees. Viscum is most commonly seen on old apple, ash, and hawthorn trees; although mistletoe does not grow as well on oak trees, mistletoe from oak trees has traditionally been the most commonly used.
Every year, the UK town of Tenbury Wells holds a mistletoe festival and crowns a 'Mistletoe Queen'.
In terms of usage, mistletoe is most commonly consumed as tea.
Using: Add 1-2 teaspoons of dried mistletoe to a glass of boiled water, infuse for 5-10 minutes and drink.
