Origin: Bulgaria
Botanical Name: Petroselinum Crispum
Common Names: Hamburg parsley, turnip-rooted parsley
Petroselinum crispum, commonly known as parsley, is a species of flowering plant in the Apiaceae family. It is native to the Mediterranean region but is now grown in various parts of the world. The root is long and tapers like a parsnip, with a pale beige to white color. It has a mild, parsley-like flavor with hints of celery and carrot, making it a versatile ingredient in cooking.
Using: Boil 1 glass of water. Put 1-2 teaspoons of dried parsley root into it. Let it steep for about 10-15 minutes.
Traditional Use
Parsley root is the classic "kidney herb" of Balkan and European folk tradition, more often used in herbal teas than the leaves or seeds. It is traditionally used:
- To support the kidneys and urinary system and the body's natural elimination of fluids
- To ease bloating and gas and support comfortable digestion
- To support comfort during the monthly cycle
- In the kitchen, in soups and broths
- Externally, to soothe the skin after insect bites
