Passiflora incarnata is a perennial, climbing (twining) herbaceous plant belonging to the Passifloraceae family. Its slender stems and specialized structures called tendrils allow it to attach to and grow over surrounding supports. It naturally grows in warm and temperate regions and typically flowers during the summer months. In the 15th and 16th centuries, Spanish Christian missionaries interpreted the structure of its flower as a symbol of the crucifixion of Jesus. It generally has a mildly bitter, herbal, and slightly earthy taste.
Usage: Add 1 teaspoon of passionflower herb to 250 ml of hot water. Let it steep for 10–15 minutes, then strain.
Traditional Use
