Menta Piperita

Peppermint Leaf / Organic Dried Peppermint Leaves / Menta Piperita / Peppermint Tea

Origin: Bulgaria
Botanical Name: Mentha piperita
Other Names: Corn Mint, Lamb Mint, Western Peppermint

Peppermint (Mentha × piperita) is a hybrid species of mint, a cross between watermint and spearmint. Indigenous to Europe and the Middle East, the plant is now widely spread and cultivated in many regions of the world. Fresh or dried peppermint leaves are often used alone in peppermint tea or with other herbs in herbal teas. Peppermint is used for flavouring ice cream, candy, fruit preserves, alcoholic beverages, chewing gum, toothpaste, and some shampoos, soaps etc. Mint leaves are edible, whether raw or cooked.
Peppermint tea is an herbal tea that you can enjoy at any time of the year. It can be consumed hot in winter and iced in summer.

Using: Use about 1 teaspoon of dried leaves in a glass of water. Put the required amount of herb and water in a teapot. Heat the water to boiling point and then pour it into your teapot over the mint leaves. Brew for 5-10 minutes. Strain.

Peppermint is a key ingredient in Moroccan green tea. This traditional tea is made by blending peppermint leaves with gunpowder tea. It is a great way to add a burst of freshness and flavor to green tea without resorting to sweeteners.

Traditional Use

Peppermint is one of the world's favourite herbal teas, and Bulgarian peppermint is prized for its high menthol content. The leaves are traditionally used:

  • To soothe the stomach, ease bloating and gas and support comfortable digestion after meals
  • To support the natural flow of bile
  • As a warming tea in the cold season, to support clear, comfortable breathing
  • To help ease everyday tension and support a clear head
  • As a gargle and mouth rinse for fresh breath and healthy gums
  • In the kitchen: fruit salads, desserts, cold drinks, lamb, chicken, fish, potatoes, eggs and green beans; a classic pairing with chocolate

Harvest & Character

Harvested July and August just before or at the start of flowering, when the leaves are richest in essential oil. Dark green crumbled leaves with a strong, cool, refreshing aroma. Store separately from other herbs, as its scent is strong.
