ORIGIN OF BULGARIA
Botanical Name: Rubus Idaeus
Common Names: Garden Raspberry Leaf, Red Raspberry Leaf, European Red Raspberry, Framberry, Hindberry, Rubus, Raspis, Raspberry bush
Rubus idaeus (raspberry, also called red raspberry or occasionally European red raspberry to distinguish it from other raspberry species) is a red-fruited species of Rubus native to Europe and northern Asia and commonly cultivated in other temperate regions.
Raspberry Leaf is often used for tea and tea mixtures. Raspberry leaves are among the most pleasant-tasting of all the herbal, with a taste much like black tea, without the caffeine. Raspberry leaf tea is in no way fruity like raspberry fruit tea, but you can always add fresh or dried raspberries to the infusion to supplement the aromatic profile with fruity and tangy secondary flavor notes and enhance color.
Using: Brew 1 tablespoon of raspberry leaf per 1-2 cups of steeping water. Let it infuse at least 5-10 minutes. Strain.
(You can also take a sitz bath by adding some raspberry leaves to warm water.)
Traditional Use
Raspberry leaf is a classic women's herb of European folk tradition, and a pleasant everyday tea that tastes a little like black tea. It is traditionally used:
- By women, to support comfort during the monthly cycle
- To support digestive comfort and regularity
- As a warming tea in the cold season, drunk hot to encourage gentle sweating
- As a gargle and mouth rinse
- Often blended with blackberry and strawberry leaves
Harvest & Character
Harvested June to September from young one-year-old canes. Green leaves, lighter and slightly white underneath, with a mild, gently astringent taste.
Please note: Traditionally avoided in early pregnancy.
