Turmeric root powder is obtained by grinding the dried rhizome (root stem) of the turmeric plant, scientifically known as Curcuma longa. It belongs to the Zingiberaceae (ginger) family, the same plant family as ginger. This tropical plant is mainly native to India and Southeast Asia. It is known for its bright yellow-orange color and its warm, earthy, and slightly spicy aroma, and it also has natural coloring properties.
Turmeric root powder is widely used in both cooking and beverages. It can be added to teas and hot drinks, milk or plant-based milk blends, used as a spice in meals, in sauces and marinades, smoothies, and spice mixtures. It is also used as a natural food coloring, giving recipes a vibrant yellow tone. It holds an important place in Indian, Middle Eastern, and Asian cuisines and is one of the main ingredients in curry blends. It enhances dishes by adding both color and a distinctive aroma. Turmeric root powder has a warm, earthy, slightly bitter and peppery taste.
Using:
-It is used in soups, rice and bulgur dishes, vegetable meals, meat–chicken–fish marinades, curry blends, and in hummus and sauces.
-It is used in immunity blends with honey and lemon, in herbal drinks with spices, as a natural food coloring, in spice mixes, and in vegan recipes.
-Turmeric powder is also used outside the kitchen as a natural coloring agent, pigment, and ingredient in handmade products, dyeing processes, and natural productions.
Tea:
Add ½ teaspoon of turmeric powder and a pinch of black pepper to 1 cup of hot water, simmer gently for 5–10 minutes, then strain and drink.
