ORIGIN OF BULGARIA
Botanical Name: Persicaria Hydropiper
Other Names: Marshpepper knotweed, Smartweed, Red water pepper, Biting knotweed
Persicaria hydropiper, commonly known as water pepper, is a plant species belonging to the family Polygonaceae. It's native to Europe, Asia, and North America and typically grows in damp or wet habitats like marshes, riverbanks, and pond margins. This herbaceous perennial plant is known for its distinctive peppery taste, which comes from the presence of piperine, the same compound responsible for the spiciness of black pepper. In terms of appearance, Persicaria hydropiper has slender stems with lance-shaped leaves arranged alternately along the stem. The small white to pinkish flowers are densely packed on elongated spikes.
Usage: Add 1-2 teaspoons dried herbs to 1 glass of boiling water. Brew for 5-10 minutes. Strain.
